accessible to everyone. half of the classes are provided by the studio. support to make sure the lights stayed on and the doors were open. as part of the agreement, they are supporting the program. they provide the community with demonstrations of various venues.

in particular, we pay attention to pre-teen and teen use, which is underserved. we have developed a community partnership and are piloting a program to offer after-school program in four middle schools. the studio hopes to be able to focus our attention on how to reach, serving the public. -- attention to outreach, irving the public. >> thanks for having us.

>> discretion to approve a permanent in mission dolores park. on july 16 of 2009, they approved the distribution of our request. they did on specific locations and allowed respondents to propose. the review the proposals and selected six respondents to interview. in january, they interviewed those respondents. we reviewed the recommendation to permit blue bottle coffee.

the department is excepting approval, and we intend to return with additional respondents, and i also want to note this is part of a citywide effort to make food carts more accessible to the public. we have someone from the mayor's office who is going to speak briefly about this program. >> it is the director designate. >> thank you. i just wanted to take a minute to put this notion of food cards in a larger context. they created the first strategy, and part of that was to identify major economic drivers

of our economy. this includes tourism, parts, food, and recreation. they specifically talked about ways to expand the economic engine, and because we are a land-constrained city, the notion as we needed to upgrade the sector. you would be shocked and how many people do not leave the northeast part of the city. they specifically called out the notion of of creating parks and increasing amenities and adding food and targeting recreation. this is ideal for residents and

tourists, for the parks, and for the neighborhood and commercial districts. at the same time, we have noticed an incredible demand for food carts in the city. portland got a head of this curve, and it has done wonders and has really added to local neighborhoods. it is incredibly cumbersome and actually regulated by the police. we are leading projects to bring legislation forward to streamline food carts in the city and allow them to create a streamlined process for planning department to give permits on underutilized private spaces. i think they have also gotten

vibrant destination, opened a cafe in the ferry building and a small coffee bar. it is very much ingrained in the coffee culture. community outreach has been the following. we undertook the following process. we placed an ad in the san francisco chronicle's. we e-mailed all parties that express and interest. we responded to hundreds of individuals and businesses. media of lists published information. there was an article in the san francisco examiner last july. and there was another article featured on a number of hogs. -- blogs. notified the following

i am a citizen of san francisco. when my parents opened a small bakery, we were threatened with a big bakery opening, but it brought new customers to that area, and i think that will also happen. i have been watching it work with the city to develop as a place for people alive in the city. -- enliven the city. i hope you will consider it and have blue bottle. >> thank you.
